Sensory Album

After photographing the daughter of a visually impaired couple, photographer Marcia Beal thought that she must do more for those parents than only deliver a traditional newborn photograph album. Because of this, Marcia looked up for Hayaks Winter and Marco Escada so that together they could create something new that would raise the photograph to a new level, capable of stimulating other senses beyond sight. The empathy for the baby's parents motivated a transformative and innovative work in the area, which had as its essence the goal of materializing this family memory for the parents, who could not see the photos taken with such care.

Marco had the challenge of using his artistic knowledge to find a material that could fit the design, should have perceptible relief to the visually impaired and still need to be light enough to be transported as a photo album. After researching several alternatives, the best solution was the digital modeling and subsequent printing in 3 dimensions, made by a printer which adds plastic layers transforming the picture into a true sculpture.

There was one more step left for this challenge. How to include all of this in a photo album to perpetuate these memories?
Hayaks mission was developing an album capable of stimulating all the senses. The album has 3D photos, Braille description, samples of cloth used by the baby and baby scent. Every detail designed thinking in the parents that they could catch a glimpse of the pictures of the loved daughter.

The result of this collaborative work thrilled the family and became national news on the biggest television channels.
